Talking Stick: The Wisdom Of The Talking Stick
According to the Native American Tradition of the Talking Stick, you are the center of the Universe when it is in your hand. No one else may interrupt. We all will witness your truth and honor your right to speak. We pledge to you our silence and respect. We will not engage in sidebars, commentary, or even the funniest joke we can think of in response. We will not diminish your truth by offering too soon comfort, or too sudden sympathy. We let you stand in the power of your own words with honor and delight. Each of us holds the power to refrain from speaking our thoughts when the Talking Stick reaches us, and we respect your right to privacy. But we encourage you with a pledge of love and safety when you are here at the Web. We will not repeat what you say here outside of the Circle. We remind each other of these promises and obligations. Full Moon Ritual Ritual Intent:
The Shell Ritual is a wonderful introduction to the practice of Drawing Down the Moon. In the company of witches, calling the energy of the Moon Goddess into our bodies is both a healing and prophetic practice of love and connection with the Divine. It is a spiritual practice appropriate to those whose energy is channeled and awakened in the Goddess path and who have knowledge of the transformations possible in the ecstatic connection to the Universe. In Eastern practices this is called the rise of the kundalini.
Because the Web holds open circles which include children, and not all who attend are initiated or knowledgeable or prepared for the awareness that comes from the Moon Goddess, we frequently substitute the shell ritual for the full drawing down of the Moon energy. It is more comfortable and just as inspiring and sometimes challenging for us all. We earned this ritual from Lydia Athena of Auburn who was our first teacher, and for this we are grateful.
Begin with a meditation on your shell held up to the moon. Call the Goddess to fill your shell with the wisdom of the moon, and listen closely for her voice whispered in your ear. You will hear a word or a phrase to take to heart for the cycle of the Moon. When we all have understood the message of the Moon, we will turn and in a spiral pattern pour our blessings and speak our words to each other. If it is too personal, you can always offer “Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.” Blessed Be.
