Hi boys and girls, Miss TZ here.
Remember last weeks story about Sidney and Simon, the identical twin Guinea Pigs? Simon loved the quiet and peace of Nature, and Sidney ran away to see the city with all its noise and busyness. Sidney could not walk the whole way, so he rested in the dark of the night, and a loud noise woke him from his sleep.
Sidney could not slow his heart down! He was really afraid, and he could not see what made the noise, or where it was coming from, in the darkness.
He strained his eyes trying to see, when all of a sudden, “Hello!” a voice came from behind him. Sidney almost jumped out of his skin! There stood Simon, smiling a big grin.
“Simon! You almost made my heart stop! What are you doing here?” screamed Sidney.
“I’m sorry.” Said Simon. “I could not bear to be without you. We are a team. I don’t want to live in the city, but it is too lonely at home without you.” Sidney shook his head, “Mom and Dad can’t be without both of us. They will be so sad. You have to go back.” Exclaimed Sidney. “Well, I am sad without you.” Said Simon. “You are my twin brother. We are soul mates.” Simon chukled and said, “ Remember how we would fool Mom and Dad? They did not know who they were talking to. And how we promised each other we would always be together, and how you could always tell when I was sad, and when you would start a sentence, I could finish it?” “Yes” said Sidney, “but we can’t always be together. We will both get married someday, and have different houses. We can’t be together forever!” Simon looked sad. “You mean we won’t be together always?”
“We will always be together in our hearts Simon. We will always know when we need each other because we are the same. Our freckles, our blood. I know you will always be able to find me if you need me, or I need you. You found me tonight right?”
“Well ----yea, I guess so.” Simon stammered. “ Well—Simon, you better believe it! There is no way you could have seen me in the darkness! You found me because we are connected. You always were better at that than me Simon.” Sidney looked around in the darkness feeling uncomfortable.
“Did you hear that big noise before? What was that?” Sidney questioned. Simon looked a little embarrassed and confessed, “that was me. I banged on a tree with the tin cup from my backpack to scare away the big rats.” “What big rats?” Sidney questioned fearfully. “Oh Sidney, don’t you see them?” “No! but you are starting to scare me Simon!” “Sidney, you must get better skills before you travel. The only reason they have not bothered us is because I sprinkled hair in a circle all around us. They don’t like hair of any others, and I have a whole pouch full that I saved from our hair brushings.” “How did you know to do that Simon?” “Well lets just say,” Simon said tilting his head, “I did some research in case I wanted to travel someday.” “You want to travel?” Sidney questioned. “I thought you liked the peace and quiet of home by the creek?” “I do!” Said Simon, “but I can take it with me, in my mind, where ever I go. I can just close my eyes and be there. Besides, there are a lot of places I would like to go to someday, that are also very peaceful.”
“You always were a bit different Simon. Right now I think I would just like to go home. I am cold and tired. I do want to see the city, but maybe it is just a little bit too big for me yet. Maybe when I am older and have better travel skills.
Maybe Mom and Dad will take us sometime. Then it will be safe.” Simon nodded, pleased that Sidney was willing to wait till it was safer. “Simon?” Sidney asked as lowered his head, “Uhmmm, do you know the way home?” Simon jumped up and said, “Follow me!”
“Simon” Sidney said smiling, “you are the best brother a brother could have!”
Simon pulled out his compass and flashlight, handed Sidney the pouch of hair to sprinkle, grinned a wide grin, and started walking. “It’s this way!”
