New Year's Family Meeting '09

Web Family & Council Meeting      Sunday Jan. 4th, 2009

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

Tom started out the meeting today by passing the talking stick to everyone present so that we could touch bases with each other.  Some familiar themes seemed to be running through everyone's lives (lots of difficulty with vehicles, delayed appointments, unexpected events, etc.).  It is thought that Coyote's presence has been felt by all (hopefully Coyote will cut us all a little break this upcoming year).

Upcoming special events were discussed:

Bev is having a class on the making of Ancient Feather Tools.  This will be held at her Hairport location in Newark on Sunday, January 18th at 1:00pm.  A $5.00 donation is requested.  If you don't have a feather to bring, Bev has extras.  If you want to bring something personal to decorate your feather with, please do so, however, Bev says she has many decorations to choose from.  A caution was raised re: bringing any Eagle feathers (even if they were gifted to you by a Native American), as you could get into trouble by having them (as Eagles are protected// birds).  Better off with a turkey or another type of feather.

Grounding for everyone....a good way to get much accomplished!!!

Then came the wonderful gift exchange.  There were many children at the meeting, a nice way to start out the New Year and bring lots of light into our lives.  Everyone seemed to enjoy searching for those special items that were meant just for us.  Much fun was had by all!!!

It was announced that Elly will be our new News Editor.  Marie resigned the position.  Many, many, thanks to Marie for her valued time and energies, and best of luck to Elly in her new role.  Everyone is encouraged to submit articles to Elly for the letters.  It would be beneficial to write the articles in WORD on your computer, then forward to Elly in that format.  Please try to stick to articles/events that are pagan-based.  The children are much encouraged to write poetry, articles, & drawings for the letter.  Thanks to all, in advance, for your submissions (they will be greatly appreciated).

Who's Who on the Web Council this year:

Tom- Chair

Elly- Vice Chair

Co-Treasurers- Mary Moon & Eric

Bev- Healing Coordinator and Team Rep.

**I know that I have forgotten someone, so sorry in advance, my first time taking the minutes and Dawn was going through things quickly.  I will get faster, please have patience.

New people on the Council, please see Eric for needed information to get you signed up to be on the list of people who are able to sign checks, as necessary for the Web.  Two signatures are required to sign the checks for payments/purchases.

Tax Exempt Status of the Web was reviewed with everyone, by Eric.  This goes back approximately 3-4 years ago, when we thought that we had been given a particular tax exempt EIN (??) number, but the number had actually been given to someone else.  So, we went on for a few years thinking that we had tax exempt status, only to find out that perhaps we did not.  Sooo, Dorothy and Eric consulted with a CPA to get the tax exempt issues straightened out.  The CPA is currently in the process of dealing with the IRS.  The Web has paid the CPA $595.00 so far re: this issue, for his time and efforts.  This is a very important issue that needs to be cleared up as soon as possible.  In review of our status with the IRS, it was discovered, that as an organization, we fit into the definition of a "Church" by the IRS standards.  This is a good thing, because it will entitle us to pursue certain options that would not be available to us if we did not meet this criteria.  It does get just a little confusing though, as some not-for-profit agencies have to pay taxes, and some for-profit agencies don't pay taxes, so overall, it's difficult to understand it all (hence the needed advice from the CPA).  Interesting enough though, Dorothy brought up the point that one of the criteria to be classified as a spiritual organization is the idea of the care-taking of the next generations, a concern that has been a part of the Web since its inception.  It's very important that we continue to support and foster the teaching and programs that we offer to the children of the next generation(s).  It was duly noted that we continue being shaped by the Powers from above.  This whole situation with the IRS has been frustrating, but hopefully, we are currently able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  There may have to be a little more money spent to get a resolution, but it will be worth it to it everything resolved.  Any questions, please talk to Dorothy or Eric (they may or may not have the answers).  Until everything is resolved, Eric will continue to be Co-Treasurer with Mary Moon.  Thanks Eric!!
