New Year's Family Meeting 2005

Web Family Meeting 1/1/05

Started at 2:30 pm.

Present:  Webweaver, Merlin, Pegqua, Kitty, Rhonnie, Dave L., Marie T., Suzanne, Phyllis, George, Odin, Bill, Matt, M’Lyssa, Low, Bev.

1.  Peg talked about the next Council Meeting, 1/14 at 4 pm, passed around copies of the Agenda.  Everyone is invited to attend.

2.  The “talking bear” was passed around for introductions.

3.  Background on The Web was given by Webweaver.  The Charter Members who were here from 10 years ago were Webweaver, Merlin, and Low.  She covered the history of The Web and the Mission Statement.

4.  Introduction of Officers and Trustees:

            M’Lyssa – Secretary

            Pegqua – Vice Chair/Acting Chair

            Merlin – trustee

            Ameya – Treasurer

            Marie – trustee

            Matt – teen rep

Each was given the opportunity to say something about concerns, ideas, etc.

Pegqua – made suggestion and gave info about a possible Joann Shenandoah concert here in June 2006.  We can get the whole band for $3000, and we can look into grants for this, possibly from the Wayne County Arts Council, for example.

Ameya – kids workshops at Festivals should not be double-booked in the future; expansion of Community Outreach efforts; links with UTC and AngelHeart Chapel; interaction with mainstream populations.

Ditchy – Outreach efforts; Fund Raising; Joint Efforts with AngelHeart; Certifications/Licensing for Alternative Health Fairs; liaison with The Springs at Clifton Springs Hospital; Maybe sponsor a Blood Drive? – connect for this thru the Wayne County American Red Cross Chapter; site rental costs? Do a co-sponsorship with AngelHeart and The Masons?

Pegqua – different areas; open meetings: “are you curious about earthbased spirituality?”; different traditions: permits, zoning regs, security. George and Phyllis mentioned an informational DVD that Four Quarters had made along these lines.; flyers to shops, churches, colleges (i.e., Hobart)

Matt – teen rep – teen group is presently pretty much dysfunctional, and the YahooGroup is not being used.  Promotion of this is needed.

M’Lyssa – Membership Coordinator, Newsletter co-editor with Webweaver,     Prisoner Mailings Coordinator, talked about her personal opinion about the future of the Web and perspective on dedication to the mission; information about the idea of an Interfaith Summit that was broached to Ameya – contact with a Syracuse interfaith council had been initiated a while ago by Webweaver, but there was no response from them.  There is a women’s group in Seneca Falls that does this kind of thing on a regular basis (from Peg or Ditchy?)

Merlin – to look into zoning regs for larger, open to the public events, i.e., traffic, permits, security, parking, sanitation, etc.

5.  What are people’s personal Priorities?  What do you want to see?

Kitty – Children’s Programs, i.e., basic skills; instruction vs. activity; Pagan Sunday School?; progression of learning, doing and teaching; Rituals – starting all together then opening “door” to the kids stuff, then come back together to close, “open class room”

Kids’ Stuff committee – Kitty, George and Phyllis (phone contact), Ameya, and Emerald – to set up something for Imbolc, coordinate with main Ritual theme.  Publicity to indicate it will be pre-school and elementary age activities.

Shamanism – Webweaver talked about Hank Wesselman’s 2 newest books being great, dealing with healing guides, ancestors and ancestral altars.  Feedback was that the Shamanic Weekend was great, and Shamanic Journey/Drumming sessions should continue.  As for frequency? Peg said once a month, Dave said twice a month especially during the winter months.  Starting January 8 and going til the end of June (for now), Shamanic Journeying will be held on the second Saturday, starting at 4 pm, and on the fourth (or last) Sundays starting at 2 pm.  This would be January 23 for this month, and folks were reminded to check the schedule as it may fluctuate from month to month.  This will be re-evaluated starting in May, as attendance tends to drop off in the summer months.

Dream Circle – Dave would like to see more on this, about sharing dreams and interpretation.  Ditchy agreed to contact Juniper about getting involved with this group again, as she had been the leader previously.  This would be held on the second Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 pm, with a soup and salad dinner offered at 6 pm (following Shamanic Journeying sessions).  It was also suggested that we set up an on-line Web Dreaming egroup for posting information and folks’ dreams if they so wished to share.

Writers’ Group – We have an online group for writing skill development, marketing, editing input, etc, and this group meets once a month “in the physical”.  Webweaver talked about what Writers’ Group is about.  Folks expressed interest in this continuing.  It will be scheduled for the 4th or last Sunday of the month at 11 am.

Healing Wednesdays – Webweaver said she’s not doing it anymore, and is looking for someone to step up as Coordinator.  She talked about making and keeping appointments, that the space is here and available for use by this group.  Talked about maybe not doing it every week, like maybe once a month instead. There was much discussion about this by everyone.  It was then decided to try:

Next Session will be January 24th.

2 pm to 5 pm – Appointments for Body Work

                        6 pm – meal break

7.  The idea of hosting the Joann Shenandoah Concert was discussed again, and everyone present was very enthusiastic, so it was decided that we would go for it.  Pegqua will contact Joann for a booking for June 21, 2006 for the entire band if possible.  A committee was established to work on this (fundraising and promotion) consisting of Pegqua, Kitty, Ameya, Ditchy, Jody, Bev, George, and M’Lyssa.

Some ideas brought up were to have a silent raffle during the Concert, to have our SummerFest Vendors there that day, to get the promotion info to places like Nature Thyme (this also pertained to all our activities and events.)

As a conversational sidebar, M’Lyssa is going to contact Empty Hats to see if they might be available to be at SummerFest 2005!

Meeting ended at approximately 6:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

M’Lyssa
