Rev Bev's Quips & Quotes

Rev Bev’s Quote:

Because we all share this planet Earth, we have to learn to live in harmony and peace with each other and with nature.  That is not just a dream but a necessity.  We are dependent on each other in so many ways that we can no longer live in scattered communities and ignore what is happening outside those communities.

            His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Rev Bev’s Quip:

It is not wise to be so single minded and ignorant of what we are doing that we sometimes bite our noses to spite our face.  This may seem a bold statement, but if we don’t try to find a better solution, in the long run, destroying others, is truly destroying ourselves!

Somewhere I read something about the difference between heaven and hell.  The story is something like this; there were 2 doors, and the Master told a man that one was heaven and the other one was hell.  Behind one door there were many people sitting around a huge vat of soup.   They were all given very long ladles to scoop the nourishment, but because the ladles were so long, they could not bring them to their mouths, so they were starving to death.  That was hell.

Behind the other door were many people sitting around a similar vat of soup with the same long ladles, but they were flourishing and healthy.  This was heaven.

The many, now very confused, asked how were they flourishing when they have the same situation as the people behind hell’s door?

The Master replied simply, “The ladles are too long to reach their own mouths, so they are feeding each other.”

I hope that we can all learn to live in harmony and peace with one another, feeding each other peace, harmony, tolerance, forgiveness, and love.
